Help us measure Fenland’s economic health in the Fenland Business Survey 2018

Posted On: Wednesday 9 May 2018

Fenland businesses are being urged to share their views in an annual survey launched by Fenland District Council and its economic development arm, Fenland for Business.

The results of the survey will help identify common issues affecting local firms, determine what support can be provided to businesses, and measure business confidence and performance.

This is the third annual survey to be conducted; last year respondents expected to see increases in their operating costs but overall profitability to either improve or remain the same. Availability of skilled workers and growing price pressure from customers and competitors were also cited as some of the biggest challenges.

Cllr David Mason, Portfolio Holder for Growth at Fenland District Council, said, “The results of this survey will help us plan the support we provide to local companies. So that we get a rounded view of business performance in Fenland, we’re keen for organisations of all shapes and sizes from across the area to participate.

“As central and local government continues to focus on the economy, and the Combined Authority reviews the wider region’s economic performance, it’s vital that businesses share their concerns, as well as the aspects of business they feel confident about, so we can provide the right support and make the most of new opportunities.”

To help share solutions to challenges identified by businesses, via the survey and in talks with local firms, Fenland for Business is continuing to offer its bi-monthly networking opportunities in Wisbech and Chatteris.

The events feature expert talks on topical business issues, such as funding and internet security, and provide a chance for attendees to network informally and discuss business challenges and ideas with representatives from Fenland for Business and the Council.

The next event on May 30, at the Boathouse Business Centre in Wisbech, will look at sustainable energy solutions that could save businesses money. And on June 27, at South Fens in Chatteris, companies can find out how to prepare for changes to pensions and the government’s Making Tax Digital initiative.

It should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete.

The deadline for responses is Friday, June 1, 2018.
